Virtues of Madinah

The Prophet said, "Medina is a sanctuary from that place to that. Its trees should not be cut and no heresy should be innovated nor any sin should be committed in it, and whoever innovates in it an heresy or commits sins (bad deeds), then he will incur the curse of Allah, the angels, and all the people."

Transferance Of Debt from One Person to Another (Al-Hawaala)

Ibn Abbas said, "In the verse: To every one We have appointed ' (Muwaliya Mawaliya means one's) heirs (4.33).' (And regarding the verse) 'And those with whom your right hands have made a pledge.' Ibn 'Abbas said, "When the emigrants came to the Prophet in Medina, the emigrant would inherit the Ansari while the latter's relatives would not inherit him because of the bond of brotherhood which the Prophet established between them (i.e. the emigrants and the Ansar). When the verse: 'And to everyone We have appointed heirs'(4.33) was revealed, it cancelled (the bond [the pledge] of brotherhood regarding inheritance)." Then he said, "The verse: To those also to whom your right  hands have pledged, remained valid regarding co-operation and mutual advice, while the matter of inheritance was excluded and it became permissible to assign something in one's testament to the person who had the right of inheriting before." (Bukhari)

Friday Prayer

While Umar bin Al-Khattab was standing and delivering the sermon on a Friday, one of the companions of the Prophet, who was one of the foremost Muhajirs (emigrants) came. 'Umar said to him, "What is the time now ?"
He replied, "I was busy and could not go back to my house till I heard the Adhan. I did not perform more than the ablution." Thereupon 'Umar said to him, "Did you perform only the ablution although you know that Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) used to order us to take a bathe (on Fridays) ?" [Bukhari]Free

Bathing (Ghusl)

Whenever the Prophet took a bath after Janaba he started by washing His hands and then performed ablution like that for the prayer. After that he would put his fingers in water and move the roots of his hair with them, and then pour three handfuls of water over his head and then pour water all over his body. [Bukhari]

Knowledge

Once Allah's Apostle gave a letter to a person and ordered him to go and deliver it to the Governor of Bahrain. (He did so) and the Governor of Bahrain sent it to Chousroes, who read that letter and then tore it to pieces. (The sub-natttator [Ibn Shihab] thinks that Ibn Al-Musaiyab said that Allah's Apostle invoked Allah against them (saying), "May Allah tear them into pieces, and disperse them all totally.)" Fear Prayer

I asked Az-Zuhri, "Did the Prophet ever offer the Fear Prayer?" Az-Zuhri said, "I was told by Salim that 'Abdullah bin Umar I had said, 'I took part in a holy battle with Allah's Apostle I in Najid. We faced the enemy and arranged ourselves in rows. Then Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) stood up to lead the prayer and one party stood to pray with him while the other faced the enemy. Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) and the former party bowed and performed two prostrations. Then that party left and took the place of those who had not prayed. Allah's Apostle prayed one Raka (with the latter) and performed two prostrations and finished his prayer with Taslim. Then everyone of them bowed once and performed two prostrations individually.'" Punishment of Disbelievers at War with Allah and His Apostle 02

A group of people from 'Ukl (tribe) came to the Prophet and they were living with the people of As-Suffa, but they became ill as the climate of Medina did not suit them, so they said, "O Allah's Apostle ! Provide us with milk." The Prophet said, I see no other way for you than to use the camels of Allah's Apostle."
So they went and drank the milk and urine of the camels, (as medicine) and became healthy and fat. Then they killed the shepherd and took the camels away. When a help-seeker came to Allah's Apostle, he sent some men in their pursuit, and they were captured and brought before mid day. The Prophet ordered for some iron pieces to be made red hot, and their eyes were branded with them and their hands and feet were cut off and were not cauterized.
Then they were put at a place called Al-Harra, and when they asked for water to drink they were not given till they died. (Abu Qilaba said, "Those people committed theft and murder and fought against Allah and His Apostle.") [Bukhari]

Punishment of Disbelievers at War with Allah and His Apostle

Some people from the tribe of 'Ukl came to the Prophet and embraced Islam. The climate of Medina did not suit them, so the Prophet ordered them to go to the (herd of milch) camels of charity and to drink, their milk and urine (as a medicine). They did so, and after they had recovered from their ailment (became healthy) they turned renegades (reverted from Islam) and killed the shepherd of the camels and took the camels away. The Prophet sent (some people) in their pursuit and so they were (caught and) brought, and the Prophets ordered that their hands and legs should be cut off and that their eyes should be branded with heated pieces of iron, and that their cut hands and legs should not be cauterized, till they die.(Bukhari)

Hadith about Prophets

The Prophet said, "Allah created Adam, making him 60 cubits tall. When He (Allah) created him, He said to him, "Go and greet that group of angels, and listen to their reply, for it will be your greeting (salutation) and the greeting (salutations of your offspring." So, Adam said (to the angels), As-Salamu Alaikum (i.e. Peace be upon you). The angels said, "As-salamu Alaika wa Rahmatu-l-lahi" (i.e. Peace and Allah's Mercy be upon you). Thus the angels added to Adam's salutation the expression, 'Wa Rahmatu-l-lahi, 'Any person who will enter Paradise will resemble Adam (in appearance and figure). People have been decreasing in stature since Adam's creation. (Bukhari)

Hadith about Belief

Who took part in the battle of Badr and was Naqib (a person heading a group of six persons), on the night of Al-Aqabq pledge : Allah's Apostle said while a group of his companions were around him, "Swear allegiance to me for :

1.Not to join anything in worship along with Allah.

2.Not to steal.

3.Not to commit illegal sexual intercourse.

4.Not to kill your children.

5.Not to accuse an innocent person (to spread such an accusation among people).

6.Not to be disobedient (when ordered) to good deed."

The Prophet added: "Whoever among you fulfills his pledge will be rewarded by Allah. And whoever indulges in any one of them (except the ascription of partners to Allah) and gets the punishment in this world, that punishment will be an expiation for that sin. And if one indulges in any of them, Allah conceals his sin, it is up to Him to forgive or punish him (in the Hereafter)." 'Ubada bin As-Samit added: "So we swore allegiance for these." Hadith about Peacemaking 01

There was a dispute amongst the people of the tribe of Mani 'Amr bin 'Auf. The Prophet went to them along with some of his companions in order to make peace between them. The time for the prayer became due but the Prophet did not turn up; Bilal pronounced the Adhan (i.e. call) for the prayer but the Prophet did not turn up, so Bilal went to Abu Bakr and said, "The time for the prayer is due and the Prophet i detained, would you lead the people in the prayer ?" Abu Bakr replied, "Yes, you wish." So, Bilal pronounced the Iqama of the prayer and Abu Bakr went ahead (to lead the prayer), but the Prophet came walking among the rows till he joined the first row. The people started clapping and they clapped too much, and Abu Bakr used not to look hither and thither in the prayer, but he turned round and saw the Prophet standing behind him. The Prophet beckoned him with his hand to keep on praying where he was. Abu Bakr raised his hand and praised Allah and then retreated till he came in the (first) row, and the Prophet went ahead and lead the people in the prayer. When the Prophet finished the prayer, he turned towards the people and said, "O people! When something happens to you during the prayer, you start clapping. Really clapping is (permissible) for women only. If something happens to one of you in his prayer, he should say: 'SubhanAllah', (Glorified be Allah), for whoever hears him (saying so) will direct his attention towards him. O Abu Bakr ! What prevented you from leading the people in the prayer when I beckoned to you (to continue)?" Abu Bakr replied, "It did not befit the son of Abu Quhafa to lead the prayer in front of the Prophet. (Bukhari)

Hadith about JUMMAH

I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "We (Muslims) are the last (to come) but (will be) the foremost on the Day of Resurrection though the former nations were given the Holy Scriptures before us. And this was their day (FRIDAY) the celebration of which was made compulsory for them but they differed about it. So Allah gave us the guidance for (Friday) and all other people are behind us in this respect: the Jews' (Holy day is) tomorrow (i.e. Saturday) and the Christians' (is) the day after tomorrow (i.e. Sunday)."(Sahih Bukhari)

Hadith About Knowledge 01

Allah's Apostle continued his talk, so some people said that Allah's Apostle had heard the question, but did not like what that Bedouin had asked. Some of them said that Allah's Apostle had not heard it. When the Prophet finished his speech, he said, "Where is the questioner, who enquired about the Hour (Doomsday)?" The Bedouin said, "I am here, O Allah's Apostle." Then the Prophet said, "When honesty is lost, then wait for the Hour (Doomsday)." The Bedouin said, "How will that be lost ?" The Prophet said, "When the power or authority comes in the hands of unfit persons, then wait for the Hour (Doomsday)." (Bukhari)

Hadith about REVELATION 02

(The mother of the faithful believers) Al-Harith Bin Hisham asked Allah's Apostle "O Allah's Apostle! How is the Divine Inspiration revealed to you ?" Allah's Apostle replied, "Sometimes it is (revealed) like the ringing of a bell, this form of Inspiration is the hardest of all and then this state passes off after I have grasped what is inspired. Sometimes the Angel comes in the form of a man and talks to me I grasp whatever he says." 'Aisha added : Verily I saw the Prophet (SAW) being inspired Divinely on a very cold day and noticed the Sweat dropping from his forehead (as the Inspiration was over). (Bukhari)

Hadith About DEATH 03

A funeral procession passed in front of the Prophet (SAW) and the people praised the deceased. The Prophet (SAW) said, "It has been affirmed (Paradise)." Then another funeral procession passed by and the people talked badly of the deceased. The Prophet (SAW) said, "It has been affirmed (Hell)." Allah's Apostle was asked, "O Allah's Apostle ! You said it has been affirmed for both ?" The Prophet (SAW) said, "The testimony of people (is accepted), (for) the believers are Allah's witnesses on the earth." (Sahih-Bukhari 3:810)

Hadith About DEATH 02

The Prophet (SAW) said, "When a human being is laid in his grave and his companions return and he even hears their foot steps, two angels come to him and make him sit and ask him: 'What did you use to say about this man, Muhammad ?' He (SAW) will say: 'I testify that he is Allah's slave and His Apostle.' Then it will be said to him, 'Look at your place in the Hell-Fire. Allah has given you a place in Paradise instead of it."
The Prophet (SAW) added, "The dead person will see both his places. But a non-believer or a hypocrite will say to the angels, 'I do not know, but I used to say what the people used to say! It will be said to him, 'Neither did you know nor did you take the guidance (by reciting the Quran). 'Then he will be hit with an iron hammer between his two ears, and he will cry and that cry will be heard by whatever approaches him except human beings and jinns." (Sahih Bukhari 2:422)

LOVE in Hadith 09

There are seven whom Allah will shade with His shade on the Day when there is no shade except His; a just ruler, a youth who grew up in the worship of His Lord, a man whose heart is attached to mosques, two men who love each other only for Allah's sake, meeting and parting for that love, a man who resists the call of a woman of noble birth and beauty to commit fornication, but he refuses and says "To fear Allah", a man who gives charity secretly so that his left hand does not know what his right hand has given and a man whose eyes flood with tears whenever he remembers Allah in private. LOVE in Hadith 08

There are three characteristics whoever has them will taste the sweetness of faith: that Allah and His Messenger (saw) are more loved by him than everything else, that he loves or does not love a person only for Allah's sake and that he would hate to revert into disbelief just as he would hate to be thrown into fire."(Al-Bukhari)

Importance Of JUMMAH Prayer

PRAYER BEFORE JUMMAH

A person who goes to attend Friday prayer can pray as many nafls as he wishes after the sun has declined from its zenith to when the Imam comes to give Khutbah. Any how he is expected to pray at least 2 rakats sunnat.

LISTENING TO KHUTBAH (SERMON)

Once the Khutbah starts, the whole congregation should listen to it in silence. If a person arrives while the Imam is giving Khutbah then this person should pray 2 rakats nafl before sitting down to listen to Khutbah.

Jabir (ra) said that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said while he was giving Khutbah:

"If anyone of you goes to attend the Friday Prayer while the Imam is delivering Khutbah he should pray 2 rakats and should not make them long."(Muslim)

There is another hadith Jabir (ra) says that once a man, came to Friday Prayer while the Messenger of Allah (saw) was delivering Khutbah, so Allah's Messenger (saw) asked him, "Did you pray ?" "No", he answered. Then the Prophet (saw) said to him, "Stand up and Pray>"(Bukhari, Muslim)

It is a continuous practice in some mosques that those who arrive while Imam is giving speech sit down and listen to the speech. When the Imam has finished the speech he gives time to the late arrivals to Pray 2 or 4 rakats sunnat. After that the Imam gives a short Khutbah in Arabic before praying the JUMAH Prayer.

Some people get very annoyed if they see a person offer 2 rakats sunnat, while the Imam is giving speech. They feel that the person is being disrespectful to the Imam. This is incorrect and unproved from the practice of the Prophet Muhammad (saw). It is also against those hadiths which we mentioned above and the one we are mentioning below.
Abl Qatadah (ra) says that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, "Whenever one of you enters the mosque he should not sit down without offering 2 rakats."(Bukhari, Muslim)

These hadiths clarify the points which are erroneously practiced above.

Verses about PEACE 04

"Again and again will those who disbelieve, wish that they had bowed (to God's will) in Islam. Leave them alone, to enjoy (the good things of this life) and to please themselves: let (false) hope amuse them: soon will knowledge (undeceive them)." (The Holy Quran 15:2-3)

Verse About PEACE

"And fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is for God. But if they desist, then let there be no hostility except against wrongdoers. (The Holy Quran 2:193)"

Importance Of Jummah

Importance Of Cleanliness For Friday Prayer

Because in Friday Prayer a comparatively large number of Muslims gather in a big place, so Islam emphasizes on the physical cleanliness as well. Prophet (SAW) said. "A person who bath on Friday, cleanses himself fully, uses oil and perfume; then goes to the mosjid early in the afternoon takes his place quietly without pushing or disturbing people; then he prays (optional prayer as much as he was able to pray); then sits quietly listening to the Khutbah, he will be forgiven his sins between this Jumah and the next Jumah."(Bukhari)

IMPORTANCE OF GOING EARLY TO FRIDAY PRAYER

On Friday it is more rewarding to get ready quickly to go to the Masjid.

Abu Hurairah (ra) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "On Friday the Angels stand oust the door of the mosque and write down the names of the people in the order in which they enter the mosque for Friday prayer. The first group of people who enter the mosque get the reward equivalent to that of sacrificing a camel, the people who enter the mosque after them get reward equivalent to that of sacrificing a cow. The people who enter the mosque after them get reward equivalent to that of sacrificing a ram and the people who follow likewise get this reward of a chicken, egg and so on there is a gradation of rewards for the people as they enter. The angels keep writing the names of the people as they enter the mosque until the Imam sits down to give Khutbah. Then the angels collect their registers and sit and listen to the Khutbah."(Bukhari, Muslim)

LOVE in Hadith 06

Whoever loves for Allah's sake, hates for Allah's sake, gives for Allah's sake and withholds for Allah's sake has a perfect faith."(Abu Dawud)

LOVE in Hadith 05

A man came to the Prophet (SAW) and asked him "O Allah's Messenger, tell me of something I do to win Allah's love and people's love." The Prophet answered "Do not love this world, Allah would love you and do not have a longing for whatever people have, people would love you."(Ibn-Majah)

"None of you will truly believe until you love for your brother what you love for yourself." (Al-Bukhari)

LOVE in Hadith 04

A strong believer is better and more loved by Allah Almighty than a weak believer , although both bear goodness. Thus, seek eagerly what benefits you the most and seek Allah's help. Do not show weakness in your struggle and if something bad happens to you, do not say "If I had done so and so, then such would not have happened", but say "it was my destiny and Allah has allowed what He wished", because the word "IF" in this context would open the door for Shaytaan to work on you.

Hadith About LOVE 03

Allah Almighty said "I am as My servant expects Me to be. I am with him if he remembers Me. If he remembers Me to himself, I would remember him to Myself. And if he remembers Me in a gathering, I would remember him in a gathering, which is even better. And if My servant draws near to Me by a hand's span, I would draw near to him by an arm's length and if he draws near to Me by an arm's length, I would draw near to him by a fathom's length. And if My servant comes to me walking, I would go to him speeding."(Al-Bukhari)

Love in Hadith 02

"Allah Almighty said: "My servant draws near to Me with nothing more loved by Me than the acts of worship that I have enjoined upon him. My servant continues to try to draw near to Me with more devotion, until I love him. When I love him, I will be his hearing with which he hears, his sight by which he sees, his hand with which he strikes, his feet on which he walks. When he asks Me for something, I will respond and when he takes refuge in Me, I will grant it to him. I do not hesitate in doing anything I intend to do as much as I hesitate in seizing the soul of My faithful servant; he hates death and I hate hurting him. But death is a must for him."(Al-Bukhari)

"If Allah would love his servant He would call Archangel Gabriel and tell him "I love this person, therefore love him." And Jibraeel would love him and call out in the heavens "Allah loves this person, therefore love him." And the inhabitants of the heavens would love him. Then he would be embraced by the people of this world. But if Allah would abhor his servant, He would call Jibraeel and tell him "I abhor person, therefore abhor him." And Jibraeel (AS) would abhor him and call out in the heavens "Allah abhors this person, therefore abhor him." And the inhabitants of the heavens would abhor him. Then he would be abhorred by the people of this world."(Muslim)

"Allah loves kindness when you deal with any matter." (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

"You will not enter Paradise until you have faith and you will not have faith until you love one another. Do you want me to tell you something you can do to make you love one another ? Make it habit to greet one another with "Assalaamu Alaykum"- peace upon you ."(Muslim)

"Give gifts to each other, as this will make you love one another."(Muslim)

"The most loved person by Allah Almighty on the Day of Judgment and nearest to Him is a just ruler. And the most hated person by Allah Almighty on the Day of Judgment and farthest from Him is an unjust ruler." (Tirmizi)

"If a Muslim loves his Muslim brother, he should inform him." (Tirmizi)

Allah would say on the Day of Judgment : "Where are those who love each for the sake of My glory ? Today I will shelter them with My shade, as there is no shade today except My shade." (Muslim)

Believers Love For One Another

Love is one of the greatest blessings God has bestowed on humanity.
God has created human nature in such a way that a person will take pleasure from loving and being loved, from friendship and from intimacy.
Being with people who live by the moral values of the Quran, enjoying love and friendship with them, brings a believer greter pleasure than many other blessings.

Therefore, the Paradise that God has promised to His servants whom He loves and with whom He is well place of extraordinary beauty in which true love, friendship and intimacy will be experienced with enormous joy forever. The information God provides about the life of Paradise in the Quran, always refers to joy, friendship, love, conversation,. pleasing words and peace. Everything that might prove an obstacle to love and friendship has been kept far removed from the people of Paradise.

In one verse, God has revealed that He will strip away any rancor in the hearts of the companions of Paradise:
"We shall strip away all rancor that is in their breasts; and beneath them flow rivers; and they will say, 'Praise be to God, who guided us to this; for we would surely never have been guided if God had not guided us. Verily the messengers of our Lord did bring the truth.' And it is cried to them: 'This is your Paradise; you have inherited it for what you used to do"(Al-A'raf 7:43).

Hadith About Death

Prophet Muhammad (saw)[peace be upon him] said, "When a human being is laid in his grave and his companions return and he even hears their foot steps, two angles come to him and make him sit and ask him: 'What did you use to say about this man, Muhammad ?' He will say: 'I testify that he is Allah's slave and His Apostle.' Then it will be said to him, 'Look at your place in the Hell-Fire. Allah has given you a place in Paradise instead of it.'" Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him added, "The dead person will see both his places. But a non believer or hypocrite will say to the angle, 'I do not know, but I used to say what the people used to say! It will be said to him, 'Neither did you know nor did you take the guidance (by reciting the Quran).' Then he will be hit with an iron hammer between his two ears, and he will cry and that cry will be heard by whatever approaches him except human beings and jinns." (Suhih Bukhari 2:2422)

Importance Of Jummah Prayer

Jummah prayer or Friday congregational prayer:

You might hear many modernists say that the Quran does not mention anything about Friday congregational prayer. But they are wrong. They say this because they read the Quran without understanding it, or by purposely distorting the translations.

"O we who believe! When the call is heard for the prayer of the day of congregation, haste unto remembrance of Allah and leave your trading. That is better for you if we did but know."[62:9](Surah Al-Jumu'ah)

As we can see ourselves, in the above Verse the Noble Quran doesn't only refer to the Jummah prayer but also gives a lot of importance to it. The Arabic word "Jumu'ah" or :Jumm'ah" means 'congregation'. This congregational prayer is offered once a week in the afternoon and it replaces the regular Zohr(or Dohr) prayer offered on other days. It's known as salaat-al-Jummah. It comes on the day known as 'Friday' in the list of the 7 christian week names.

The Jummah prayer is an obligation (fard) for men and is recommended for women to be performed at a mosque along with the congregation (Jamm'ah or jamm'at). Women also have the option of performing the Zohr prayer instead, either privately or in a mosque. Anyone who is unable to join a congregation for jumm'ah is required to make up the prayer with a regular Zohr prayer. The purpose of this weekly congregational prayer is to give believers a chance to offer prayer together once a week, so that they can see and meet the people of their community at a common venue. And indeed the masjid is the best common venue for believer.

For Muslims living in the West it might be harder to attend congregational prayer in the afternoon, even though it's only once a week, primarily because of the long distances, the absense of masjids in all neighborhoods and no additional breaks on Friday at workplaces. That's indeed unfortunate. But let such folks try to attend the Friday prayers to the best of their abilities. After all, Allah sees our efforts and intentions a lot more than what we actually achieve. He is infinitely Merciful.

The method of offering Jummah prayer is exactly the same as all other prayers, except that it's shorter than the regular Zohr prayer and consists of only 2 rakats like the Fajr prayer. The Jummah prayer is preceded by a sermon known as "Khutba" in Arabic. The sermon can be in any language which is understood by majority in the congregation.

By reading Verse 62:11 of the same Surah Al-Jumm'ah, it seems very possible that the system of delivering the khutba (sermon) was done by the Prophet (SAW).

"But when they spy some merchandise or pastime they break away to it and leave thee standing. Say : That which Allah hath is better than pastime and than merchandise, and Allah is the Best of providers." [62:11](Surah Al-Jumm'ah)

The above Verse is said to refer to an incident when the Prophet (saw) was explaining and talking to the people of congregation during the Jummah prayer (which was very likely the sermon) when most people of this congregation got distracted by the noise of celebration going on outside and ran to see it, leaving the Prophet (SAW) by himself.

Hadeeth About Peace

The teachings of the Prophet (saw) on how you and I should treat our Non-Muslim friends and neighbours on a day to day basis as well as how to government should treat a Non-Muslim citizen of a Muslim state.

"He who believes in God and the Last Day should honour his guest, should not harm his neighbour, should speak good or keep quite." (Bukhari, Muslim)

"Whoever hurts a Non-Muslim citizen of a Muslim state hurts me, and he who hurts me annoys Allah." (Bukhari)

"He who hurts a Non-Muslim citizen of Muslim state, I am his adversary, and I shall be his adversary on the Day of a Judgement."(Bukhari)

"Beware on the Day of Judgement; I shall myself be complainant against him who wrongs a Non-Muslim citizen of a Muslim state or lays on him a responsibility greater than he can bear or deprives him of anything that belongs to him."(Al-Mawardi)

"Anyone who kills a Non-Muslim who had become our ally will not smell the fragrance of Paradise."(Bukhari)

The Meaning Of Jihad

Within Islam the term jihad refers to a large category of meanings. Today, however, there are attempts to isolate this term to only one form of jihad to the exclusion of all others. This includes a conception of jihad that at best refers only to armed struggle, and at worst to a barbaric form of warfare that seeks to destroy whatever peace may still remain in the world. This could not be farther from the concept of jihad as understood by Muslims throughout history and the world over. For Muslims, jihad is much more than armed struggle against an enemy from the outside for it includes constant struggle within both oneself and one's own society. When Jihad actually does take the form of armed struggle, Muslims are aware that it can only be done for the sake of a just cause.

Once upon returning from a battle, the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said to his companions, "We have returned from the lesser Jihad to the greater Jihad; the Jihad of the soul." Here the term Jihad refers to the spiritual exercise of opposing the lower self. This referred to as the greater Jihad since people spend their lives struggling against the base desires within them that can harm both themselves and those around them.

Jihad is also used to refer to the pilgrimage to Mecca. When Aishah, the wife of the Prophet (SAW), was asked about the Jihad of women, she said, "Your Jihad is to make the pilgrimage." Here the pilgrimage is the lesser Jihad of women and the elderly who are not members of the armies that fight in defense of the country, so pilgrimage, which is a journey that is comprised of great difficulties due to the crowds and the physically demanding nature of its practices, is called Jihad. The term Jihad is also used to refer to speaking truth to those in power, so in Islam government oversight is a form of Jihad.

In addition to these meanings, the term Jihad refers to the defense of a nation or a just cause. This is what Jihad was legislated for, and it must be differentiated from indiscriminate killing by the condition that it be "in the way of God" meaning to struggle in self-defense, to alleviate tyranny, or to prevent aggression. These are the characteristics that differentiate Jihad from killing, which is a crime. These characteristics that amount to "in the way of God" are summed up in the Quran, " Fight in the way of God against those who wage war against you, but do not commit aggression - for, verily, God does not love aggressors," [Quran, 2:190]. This verse summarizes everything that has been agreed upon concerning guidelines of warfare, including the first and second Geneva Conventions.

As for suicide bombing, Islam forbids the taking of one's life. Ind addition, Islam forbids aggression against others. Attacking civilians, women, children and the elderly by blowing oneself up is absolutely forbidden in Islam. No excuse can be made for the crimes committed in New York, Spain and London and anyone who tries to make excuses for these acts is ignorant of Islamic law (shari'ah), and their excuses are a results of extremism and ignorance.

JUMAH (Friday Prayer)

IMPORTANCE OF ATTENDING FRIDAY PRAYER

Friday Prayer is very important in Islam. It has got its own moral, social and political benefits. It is obligatory for every Muslim expect women, children, seriously ill people and travelers. They can pray Jumah but it is not obligatory on them.

Prophet Muhammad (saw) has given a strong warning to a person who leaves his Jumah prayer without a good reason. In one hadith Abdullah Bin Masud (ra) narrates what the Messenger of Allah (saw) once said about the people who did not come to the Friday Prayer without a good reason.

"I wish to appoint someone to lead the prayer and myself go to the house of those who missed the Friday Prayer and set fire to their houses with the occupants in them." (Muslim, Ahmad)

Another hadith states, "A person who leaves 3 Friday Prayers consecutively, Allah puts a seal on his heart." (Ahmad, Tirmizi, Abu Dawud)

Do not Suicide

Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) said :
"Whoever throws himself down from a mountain and kills himself will be throwing himself down in the Fire of Hell forever and ever. Whoever drinks poison and kills himself will be sipping it in the Fire of Hell forever and ever. Whoever kills himself with piece of iron will have that iron in his hand, thrusting it into his belly in the fire of Hell forever and ever." [Sahih Bukhaari :5442, Muslim : 109]

Grave's Call

Once when he was seated near a grave, the Prophet (sallAllahu 'alayhi wasallam) said: "Every grave proclaims in the most horrific voice, 'O progeny of Adam ! Have you forgotten me ? I am the house of loneliness. I am a strange land of wilderness ! I am a hole of mites and worms. I am a place of hardship and trial, save those fortunate ones for whom Allah makes me commodious and wide. I am for all other human beings a tortuous place." In addition, the Prophet (saw) said : "The grave is either one of the pits of Hell or a small flower garden out of the gardens of Paradise." [Tabarani]

Take heed from the sight of the graveyard and develop the habit of concentrating your thoughts and imaginative powers on meditating life after death.

Gender roles in Islam

The Quran expresses two main views on the role of wome. It states that women are not equal to men in terms of  inheritance, but men and women before God are equal in terms of their religious duties ( i.e. belief in God and his messenger, praying, fasting, paying zakat (charity), making hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah/Median) and places them "under" the care of men (i.e. men are life, but not identical. Surah An-Nisa' 4:1 states that men and women are created from single soul (nafs wahidah). One person does not come before the other, one is not superior to the other, and one is not the derivative of the other. A woman is not created for the purpose of a man. Rather, they are both created for mutual benefit of each other.

Also, in the Quran it's indicated that all of mankind is made from a single soul. Also, they were equal in destiny when they were ordered by God not to eat from the forbidden tree, which resulted in their exile from heaven because of the temptations of the devil "Satan", not by the temptation of EVE.
